A Holistic Approach to Life

Image
Imagine a world where people find joy and purpose in various leisure activities and where community development and individual growth are approached holistically. Well-being encompasses health, education, the economy, and the environment, and urban spaces are harmonious connections between humans and nature. People of different ages come together in shared spaces to engage in activities that foster continuous learning and skill development. Technological advancements synergise with nature to enhance the natural environment while promoting community engagement and sustainable living. In this city, people actively think critically and problem-solve to address local and global issues. Personal fulfilment, societal responsibility, and collective well-being are the values that guide this intelligent and living city.   While North America and Europe are asleep. Australia is awake. Relocate. The beauty phenomenon. Givenness and in excess. All-American beauty. Their women are the most beautiful. Their men are the most virile. USA exported US$107m worth of frozen beef to China in July. Australia exported US$35m worth of frozen beef to China in July. The USA leapfrogged Australia as the leading exporter of frozen beef to China. Australia is the loser. Ambiguous shared values Excluding Muslims from citizenship. Authoritarian occupation of Jammu-Kashmir. Widespread police brutality. Enlightened self-interest. Exporting recording high volumes of coal to India. Vaccine rollout is "not a race". The sooner we get there, the sooner we get there. Confused. Evoking. Ancient history and myth. One ecstatic impulse. Industrialization. Escape from ancient narratives. To a new order of continuous disruption. Outsourcing public housing is a failure. The stock of available housing for low-income people is ...

Thinking Whilst Filling Out Forms

Image
What does it take to make it seem 'as-normal'?  Just as disruptive technologies successfully challenged established incumbent businesses and changed behavior, COVID-19 has disrupted what socially acceptable behaviors are. The disruption has impacted ownership of activity from the participant, to the onlooker, the designer, and the enforcer. And from this point on, the doing-it in a stable environment has changed.   Right now, the contextual differences that prescribed acceptable transactions and behaviors are in flux. Cognitive understanding of what are changes in automated and behavioral expectations are enacted with haste causing social frustration and behavioral error. Who will be blamed, who will be punished, and who will be restricted is now contentious ? By this, I mean what will be accepted as usual as authorities and the users competitively demonstrate assertiveness, insolence, communication aggressiveness, defensive reactions, and other possible behavioral exerti...

Jingili Water Gardens Restricted Freedoms

Jingili Water Garden Restricted Freedom Covid-19 2020 Just do it Barriers onto my normality Just do it Being free to act within restrictions Just do it We cannot know things as they are in themselves (Kant) Darwin Jingili Water Gardens  The mango trees are all in bloom. My life is in bloom. At 60. In the shadows of COVID-19. From what I visioned as the year of synchronicity 2020 has on the surface has, all but shut down. Social barriers box in my normality. Instead of travel, I’m staying home.  Australia has shut down its borders, and so have I.  So after a massive start, working under pressure, and meet stressful deadlines, I am questioning what it is I do. Do I meaner through my holidays without care and intensity? That is, feeling relaxed without care. This self-reflection is about ‘just do it.’  I have dedicated myself to education for decades, and I am fastly approaching retirement. Since my early years as an artist and extended absence, I have fantasized abou...

Visually Inspired Behavior

“The primary cause of disorder in ourselves is the seeking of reality promised by another.” ― Krishnamurti We teach our students content that makes sense but we do not teach skills in how to prepare for situations that do not make sense. Society works hard to present normality as that without disorder. That is to you know where you are; what you are expected to do; and that the flowers you pass every day are the same flowers. However, we do not teach students, to see different flowers on each passing and that the river is not the same. If one in every five adults experience mental illness why is it that schooling is predominately about 'promised' normality and not preparing for the disorder 'of the promise'. Schooling for anxiety, depression, attention deficit disorder, post-traumatic stress, psychosis, and schizophrenia is required. Society could do well by flipping the school. Every student has a story to tell. School as a check-in rather than a check-out. Are our stu...

Australian Post - why are we doing their job?

Image
I have a problem My issue concerns automation and human-based services. The Australian postal service was originally based on the daily delivery of mail, however, with email and automated billing fewer mail is delivered. So the efficiency of maintaining a full fleet of mail persons is questioned - fewer posties are required. However, corresponding automation of delivery has occurred - that is buying consumable products through online services such as Amazon. Online services require fewer retail staff, however, they need people to deliver the order to complete the order. My problem is that we (the customer) are using our resources to complete the transaction. Both companies are relying on our time and cost to complete the transaction. In Australia much of the online delivery is achieved by the Australian Postal services, however, the manual delivery method hasn't much changed to accommodate online orders. There are perhaps more delivery vans than ever before and fewer mail bikes, h...

Australian Mass Media Peddles Systemic Racism

Image
The Australian newspaper editor-in-chief, Paul Whittaker describes the following cartoons as "Bill Leak's confronting and insightful cartoons force people to examine the core issues in a way that sometimes reporting and analysis can fail to do". Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care a non-governmental group for Indigenous children and families, called the cartoon "disgusting, disrespectful, and hurtful", adding: "Those involved in publishing such a clearly racist cartoon should be ashamed and should issue a public apology to all Australians." Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency chief executive Muriel Bamblett said it depicted Aboriginal people as "not knowing about their children and not having any role in raising their children". "You feel quite oppressed when these things happen, I think that we everyday have to battle with direct racism and indirect racism," she told 774 ABC Me...

What needs to change in cricket to engage me

Image
As an Australian, my cultural heritage was embedded heavily in cricket - through many hours of listening to, watching, playing, supporting, and discussing. I have now lost interest in the game - well more specifically test cricket, one-dayers, and now 20 20. Test cricket is just out of touch. One day games are too long and take too long to get engagement. Simply putting, I cannot dedicate one day to watch a game.  20 20 is slightly better but my interest falls from one 20 to the next 20 sessions. It is like reading two books one after the other. It is not a game it is two games connected by a score. So................. Get rid of test cricket. It is too centered on the players, ex-players, and a hand full of die-hards. It is tedious, there are too many non-events draws and is biased by climatic conditions. Borrrrring One day games just take too long. There are better things to do with a TV, mp3, or tablet. My day is too interesting to waste on one game. 20 20 is...

Time and Distraction reflection

The Catholic funeral rites is about “what?”

Image
Catholic funeral traditions are about “what?” The Catholic basis - the 10 commandments – are the source of ideas and solutions however what do they mean when requesting a sanctified funeral? Is approval based on favorable ethics of the time and or as a political marketing exercise? It seems that when it comes to sanctified funerals, in contemporary times, only the gay porno movie makers miss out and it seems that the public scandal determines approval or not. Catholic Funeral rites The Church denies funeral rites to the following people unless they gave some signs of repentance before death: notorious apostates, heretics, and schismatics; those who chose the cremation of their bodies for reasons contrary to Christian faith; other manifest sinners to whom a Church funeral could not be granted without public scandal to the faithful (cf. Canon 1184.1.1–3). So does the Catholic Church give funeral rites to: Murderers? People, who commit suicide? Mass Murderers? Rapists? M...
