Generations Lost

Image
Lost and Gone Tunnel Dog  Generations Lost - The Dark Jazz Chronicle Poem - Song The Funnel We tiptoe on an obscure path. As like shining stars. Sinking each and every night. As we continually inch forward. Bound by our unspoken agendas Years and years? Generations and generations? Lost and gone. I can no longer see a post-capitalist society. I can only see the continuous burden of millions. Minced into meta pulp.  Reluctant to deviate. Years and years? Generations and generations? Lost and gone. So many fluorescent lights. Destroyed the night sky Drowned through hope and desperation. Bound together and shattered. Years and years? Generations and generations? Lost and gone. Lost and Gone Tunnel Dog Dive into the haunting world of Dark Jazz with "The Funnel," a mesmerizing musical journey through the obscure pathways of our collective psyche. Set against a backdrop of dimly lit lights and unspoken agendas, this video captures the essence of generational despair and the relentl

Lost and Gone

Image
Lost and Gone Poem: Funnelled into this tunnel We tiptoe on an obscure path, sinking further into acceptable societal norms. Our leaders are the shining stars of opportunity, hope and desperation. We are wearing modernist chains as productivity symbols. We continually inch forward. Bound by their unspoken agendas. The tunnel shields us from the glimmer of what could be. We carry the burden of shattered aspirations. We forgot them as the junk of continuous acquisition minced us into meta pulp. What drives our reluctance to deviate from this tunnel? The way towards a post-capitalist society are intertwined with our innermost galaxies. Can we continue waiting for the moment we can see clearly through the fluorescent lights? Years and years? Generations and generations? Lost and gone. Story: Our footsteps echo in compliance on a dark path. Every person watching is a unique shadow, a beautiful and intricate figure composed of unfulfilled dreams and values. We carry chains mistaken for rhy

Choices and Daily Rituals

Image
Video: Choices and Daily Rituals Story: I see them daily, following the same routine, saying the same things, and living the same day repeatedly. They take identical pictures and check their reflections on every surface. The world is vast, full of opportunities and choices, but they, like me, wear dark glasses as they go through life. I wish I could shake myself and realise the chances I'm missing, but I'm in a trance, convinced that this narrow path is all there is. Existence keeps moving on, and it pains me that I can't see past the capital waste. We could achieve so much if we didn't sit on the fence and merely comment on each other. But here I am, watching this play with the spectators, where the power to change the script is on the tip of our tongues, yet we decide not to say it. Description: Dive into the profound narrative of life in repetition, where each day mirrors the last. This exploration goes beyond the surface, questioning the comfort of routine and the

Finding Self in the Cityscape

Image
Mirrored Metropolis: Finding Self in the Cityscape Story: I am lost in the endless cycle of this cityscape, constantly seeing myself reflected in its modern shiny surfaces. The red traffic light blinks intermittently in a never-ending cycle, symbolising urban monotony. Taking a selfie, I see myself being captured in countless fragments, reflecting the driver, pedestrian, and street lamp. I am a quantified self, trapped in the repetitive narrative of city life. Each photo is a breadcrumb leading me back to myself. I am a loop within a loop, echoing endlessly in the digital corridors of eternity. To break free, I must acknowledge the prison of my own gaze. But for now, I remain trapped in the perpetual selfie of existence, a figure multiplied yet diminished. Just another form of content. Description: Dive into a visual journey where philosophy meets urban photography. "Echoes of Existence" is a series that explores the Sartrean concept of self through the medium of the selfie

Midnight Passage Under the City's Skin

Image
Midnight Passage Under the City's Skin As the couple walks under the city overpass, they feel the weight of existence around them. The oppressive surroundings of steel and concrete remind them of their solitary existence in the universe. They assimilate into the nothingness that threatens to engulf them with each step. The lighting casts their shadows as disjointed silhouettes, reflecting the disorganised nature of existence. They feel like objects in the enclosed space, and the unsettling realisation of life's inherent lack of meaning causes nausea. Poem: Living under the city overpass Living under the city overpass. A couple senses the heavy burden of their existence. Steel and concrete loom over them. Underscoring their isolation in the vast universe. With each step, they blend into the void. Feeling its engulfing presence. Shadows stretch into broken shapes. Mirroring the chaos of life itself. In this confined space, they are mere objects among objects. A nauseating epiph

Can Leaders Fix Society?

Image
Poem Can Leaders Fix Our Broken System? Leaders think that they guide our communities.  But urban chaos contradicts that vision.  Socio-economic divisions undercut visions of being orderly.  To tackle this gap, we must rethink leadership.  Leaders must be stripped of ambition and moral dominion.  And viewed as active co-players in our understanding of chaos. Description "Can Leaders Fix Our Broken System" explores leadership, urban environments, and social inequality. Key Words leadership, social inequality, urban chaos, systems change, philosophy of leadership, arthouse, fixing broken systems, alternative leadership models Be Creative and Innovative with Knowledge John Bennett - AKA JJFBbennett, is an independent artist. Messages Under The Bridge

Image
Artist's Description: As I was walking along San Lorenzo in Manila, I noticed that I was passing under a bridge and was intrigued by the messages on the walls. It dawned on me that I was walking in the footsteps of Don Bosco. The situation we find ourselves in is not set in stone, and it is not about exerting power over others. Instead, it is about empowering others. As a society, we often find ourselves at a crossroads. Education is our best tool to illuminate the path ahead. We must lead our communities towards a future where diversity is celebrated, fairness is upheld, and the human spirit thrives. Artwork Review: This piece by multimedia artist JJFBbennett, titled "I Found Messages Under The Bridge," is a provocative synthesis of realism and surrealism. The image captures an urban landscape under a bridge, often associated with transition and overlooked narratives. The juxtaposition of the urban setting with the serene, almost sanctified figure of Don Bosco creates a

Hollywood Portrays Rage

Image
Hollywood's Rage Obsession: Good vs Evil? Hollywood often portrays rage as a tool the righteous hero uses, a powerful force that drives explosive action against injustice. These heroes channel their anger into violence, serving as cathartic embodiments of our own frustrations. However, this simplistic portrayal of rage obscures its true complexity and can make us blind to its destructive potential. Question Does Hollywood oversimplify rage? We explore how movies portray rage as heroic and the potential consequences. From catharsis to destructive force, let's unpack Hollywood's rage narrative. Is Hollywood Rewriting History

Image
Is Hollywood Rewriting History? Reflecting on Cultural Identity This video explores the potential distortion of historical narratives through a Hollywood lens. I grapple with questions of authenticity, colonial legacy, and the importance of preserving cultural nuances in storytelling. Join me in this discussion on representation and the power of who gets to tell the story. Keywords: Hollywood cultural appropriation Filipino history storytelling authenticity colonialism in film resistance narratives Our Hollywood Heroes are on Fire We dream of parallel universes where Hollywood heroes and colonial adventurers of the 19th century coexist. These adventurers were cultural conquerors, erasing borders and reshaping narratives to fit the dominant worldview. Hollywood continues this tradition, reworking stories to fit the familiar and shaping our perceptions of reality. We must question the stories we are told, lest we become complicit in subtly reshaping history and perpetuating distorted n

Emotional and Evocative

Image
Do you feel the weight of history in your city's streets? Does the same spirit that fueled Bonifacio's fight for Philippine freedom burn in you today? Walking with Bonifacio Chino Roces Avenue burns with history. I imagine heroes like Andrés Bonifacio sweating in this same overwhelming heat. The cultural spirit that Bonifacio kindled. Each step reveals layers of the Filipino struggle for freedom. Skyscrapers loom but can't hide the past. Bonifacio's soul lingers in these streets. The fight for justice continues today. The privileged few have stripped this city, and the desperate have been pushed to the neglected outskirts. Defiance has spread through the streets as the poor are forced to pay inflated costs. The social fabric tears under the pressure of workers trapped in endless cycles of debt. Years of witnessing wealth disparity, crushing interest rates and suppressing labour unions have moulded resistance into something unyielding. Keywords: Bonifacio, Filipino his

Walking with Bonifacio

Image
Walking with Bonifacio on Chino Roces Avenue As I walk along Chino Roces Avenue, I can't help but reflect on the lives of two of the Philippines' greatest heroes, José Rizal and Andrés Bonifacio. The sun beats down on me with intensity as I imagine the heat they must have endured during their time. The city's bustling energy surrounds me, starkly contrasting the profound, revolutionary ideas that once filled Bonifacio's mind. Every step I take is steeped in history and the unspoken hopes of a people longing for freedom. The towering modern structures that now line the streets cast shadows over the past, but the memories and struggles of the Filipino people are still present in every corner of the city. In the heart of Manila, where revolution once burned brightly, Bonifacio's legacy lives on as a silent guardian watching over the streets where the people continue their unrelenting pursuit of justice and liberty.
