The art of authenticity

Image
The Struggle for Authenticity in Art I want to speak today about authenticity . And about what we quietly give up to be accepted. We’re told that contemporary political art values autonomy . That artists are free. That inquiry sits at the centre of practice. But autonomy, in reality, is often something we *perform*— not something we’re allowed to exercise. Freedom is celebrated rhetorically, while legitimacy is granted only when work conforms to approved languages , approved theories , approved causes . Autonomy isn’t denied outright. It’s curated. This system doesn’t fail artists by accident. It functions mechanically. It rewards work that aligns with predetermined frameworks and filters out work that doesn’t speak the sanctioned dialect . Many voices are excluded not because they lack skill or meaning, but because they refuse to translate their experience into institutionally legible language. I’m not saying all excluded work is good. I am saying much of it is never heard. An...

GODin Equilibrium

Image
GODin Equilibrium The haste to make common sense is immediately erroneous But that doesn't seem to matter in the world of simulated comfort She will be right mate, don't fix it if it's not broken Common Sense: We need a strong response to threats The observation must be questioned if the edge is to be protected from the core Making sense require curiosity  The majority of mind matters is comforted by delusion Investigation is the only way forward Common Sense: We cannot be seen as weak History repeats under the mantra of common sense The future is ours if we collectively question The chance of choice is not within the boundary Futileness nestles within accepting commonality Our political leaders maintain fear and conflict as the broker to maintain common sense  There is a disregard of the intellect  Common Sense: We cannot be confused by complexity

Godin vader It is so easy to fall into battle. It takes time to realise respect. in daydreams I forget the grind. in stress I embrace the grip. How easy it is to not know yourself. Whilst busily manipulating the enemy we forget our own bleeding. it just seems easier to forget yourself in moments of battle.

Lifelong Learning

Life-long Learning - Transformational eLearning ‘ The concept of getting and holding a job in one industry for decades is outmoded, a byproduct of the industrial mindset ’ ( Tom Peters June 2014) . It is important to view school based eLearning within the continuum of lifelong learning. In other words, eLearning structures should be considered within a life-long adventure and a natural part of personal transformation rather than a segmented fix satisfying the needs of a specific period of time. Presently, eLearning services are overwhelmingly rooted to the industrial mindset which is primarily focussed on content and assessment. Whilst, content and assessment remain important elements they should no longer be perceived as a finite identifier of a good eLearning service. Learning is far more complex. To enable lifelong learning skills, contemporary eLearning systems need to address disconnection, work conditions and behavioural learning skills. Disconnection : The m...

Behavioural Change and Improved Learning

Image
(This discussion paper is contextual to Australian schools.) The relationship between behavioral change and improved learning is a deeply rooted process of schooling. As structures go, classrooms contain a largely sized body of people within smallish size rooms, students are legislated to compulsory attend, and are regulated by the powers of a solitary instructor/manager.  For an individual child to successfully learn in this controlled space classroom behavior must be acquired. The child learns this behavior in the classroom itself. Classroom behaviour is a learning discipline in itself. It is difficult for a child to learn within a classroom if the child doesn’t subscribe to classroom rules. Schools are ‘disciplinary institutions’.   Australian schooling is  similar to the descriptions formed by Foucault.  In reference to Foucault  this discussion concerns the relationship between power, knowledge and future social positioning.  This discussion i...
