As I gazed across the skyline, the city unfolded before me like a tapestry of antiquity and modernity. The skyline as a forest of skyscrapers, each tower reaching towards the heavens, a statement of endless growth, progress and ambition. Below, the roads pulsated with life, a bustling network of energy and motion. Yet, amidst this relentless push towards modernity, there exists the old city where I could sense the city's soul, steeped in its past, struggling with its survival. Old and new ways, ancient superstitions, and the gods of capital growth embraced in a delicate dance to claim the future. The city is ever-evolving and stands as a monument of societal change.   Converging Traffic in Manila poem I am a passenger entering Manila.  The complexity of the city's carriageways and lanes is both bewildering and fascinating.  I gaze out, trying to make sense. Through the web of intricate pathways.  The traffic is fluid; however, I experience it as chaotic. My driver remains steadfast as vehicles converge and exit.  Intuitively understanding this dynamic system.  Balancing the collective's expectations with our personal needs. I find myself staring out of the windshield, taking in the vibrant scene of city life. Within the chaos, I sought refuge from the uncertain situation.  Suddenly, amidst the

  Vacation Exit I am stuck in an edge-forward crawl.  A gridlock by design. Two locals are engaged in dialogue. My world is locked into this predestined cabin. Their world is open and unrestricted. A melody formed by parallel and simulated circumstances. I find myself in a paradox of motion and stillness, where the journey halts, but thoughts race. Once vibrant and bustling, the world outside is now trapped in silent stillness, where the traffic has morphed into itself. Time has stretched into micro eternities.  Our cars lined up like beads on a string. We share a communal struggle in our isolated bubbles. Each vehicle is a small universe in its own right. All our stories, dreams, and disappointments converge into a gridlock. In this enforced pause, I try to soothe my grinding frustration - the theft of my time and obstacle to plans.   I'm entering Manila. Under the Metro Manila Skyway.  I'm in the shadows. The tropical sunshine creates theatrical veils. Two motorcycle riders move with an effortless grace that speaks of freedom. They weave through traffic, a fluid dance amid the fast cars and large trucks. This scene is enchanting despite the seeming danger.  The motorcycle riders are exposed and vulnerable. Yet they dance in and out of traffic with certainty and control.  Searching for safe passage through transient unoccupied space. Their journey compliments my experience as a tourist.
