Abstraction Belief and Experience

Image
Modernist art and idealised reality When you look at abstract art, you filter it through your own beliefs and experiences. Your perception turns the artwork into a visual puzzle, shaped by your unique psychological makeup. It is futile to ask what the artist intended, because you inevitably interpret the artwork through the lens of your own life. Bring your own perspectives when approaching modernist abstract art.  Modernist artists aspired to a universal, timeless harmony, pursuing the "supremacy of pure feeling." They demanded absolute sincerity, approaching the canvas as an idealised reality. Decades later, the world and art have evolved. Modernist art and idealised reality Looking through the Lens of Belief Your core values and philosophical outlook dictate whether you perceive divine harmony or chaotic randomness in a composition. Many pioneering abstractionists created art inspired by their spiritual beliefs, often expressing the unseen. The artist’s worldview shapes th...

Into the Neon Night

Seeking Refuge in the City that Never Sleeps

My memories of that neon-soaked night are a strange mix of vivid and haze. The city, a labyrinth of fluorescent dreams, pulsated in a spectrum of electric hues, a sight that usually kept me awake. But that night, the lights were too bright, and I yearned for the sweet release of oblivion, a sign of my emotional exhaustion.

The face in the mirror is a blur, bathed in a pink and purple glow, almost ethereal. Eyes that have seen too much, too quickly, now seeking refuge behind closed lids. It's a curious thing, this exhaustion that cuts through the neon façade, slicing through the cacophony of slot machines and raucous laughter.

It's a paradox of the electrified nightlife; even the most drugged-up souls long for darkness, a momentary escape from the relentless barrage of stimuli. The irony of it all—running to the city that never sleeps only to find yourself yearning for the very sleep it shuns. The neon lights, so vibrant and alluring, only serve to deepen the ache for the quiet darkness.

I lean back, letting the surreal, psychedelic light wash over me. It blurs the edges of my reality, turning the garish into the ghostly, the frenetic into the faint. As those around me blur, so does my consciousness. Once a beacon of possibility, the lights now only highlight my fatigue. And in that moment, I had a profound realization- in the heart of Capital Freedom, amidst all the chaos and light, you don't just want; you need a moment of quiet darkness.

Lyrics

Verse 1

Memories of that neon-soaked night

A strange mix of vivid and hazy wants

The city, a labyrinth of fluorescent dreams

Pulsated in a spectrum of electric hues

Chorus

Seeking refuge in the city that never sleeps

Wander through the maze of light and shadow

Lost in the dance of artificial stars

Hoping to find a moment of stillness

Verse 2

The streets buzzed with relentless energy

Each corner, a new wave of sensory overload

Reflections of faces blurred in the glow

The echoes of countless lives intertwined

Chorus

Seeking refuge in the city that never sleeps

Wander through the maze of light and shadow

Lost in the dance of artificial stars

Hoping to find a moment of stillness

Bridge

In the heart of the chaos, I found myself

A solitary figure amidst the crowd

The city's pulse matched my own weary beat

Together, we whispered secrets to the night

Chorus

Seeking refuge in the city that never sleeps

Wander through the maze of light and shadow

Lost in the dance of artificial stars

Hoping to find a moment of stillness

Outro

Finding solace in the shared loneliness

The city's embrace both harsh and tender

In the relentless hum of life, I sought peace

In the vibrant silence, I found my breath
