The Unreachable Yoke

Image
The Unreachable Yoke  A POV shot from JB’s perspective, looking down at his own body. His hands are locked rigidly at his sides by the cocoon. Ghostly, semi-transparent images of his hands are reaching out, trying to "yank, shove, slam" a control panel that isn't there. The image captures the desperation of a pilot whose identity is "unspooling" because he cannot reach the controls. I look down... but the body in the weave doesn't feel like mine anymore. My arms are locked. Pinned to my ribs by the silver vice. But I can see them... ghosts. Ghost hands... peeling away from my skin. Reaching out! They are trying to YANK... to SHOVE... to SLAM the yoke forward! But there is no yoke. There is no control panel. Only the dark. I am a pilot with no hands... and without them... I am unspooling into NOTHING. Be Creative and Innovative with Knowledge John Bennett - AKA JJFBbennett , is an independent artist. You can view and subscribe to my work via  Blogger ...

Personal framework for leadership development

Image
Personal Framework for Leadership Development. Introduction My leadership journey is about self- realisation , via an evolving pathway of opportunity and application. Whilst my development has obvious milestones, these stepping points do not lead towards a premeditated leadership goal. My approach has not been as intuitive as Magnus Walker Go with your gut feeling nor has it been as linear as Charlie Bell, who spent decades climbing the McDonald's corporate ladder. I have not instigated or created an innovative company that has changed the world. Nor have I transformed one that was struggling to survive and now leads the way. I do not have the knowledge expertise to change a domain of thinking. However, my approach and willingness to explore new thoughts of action has lead me to a keen interest in leadership within educational settings. I am particularly interested in leadership paradigms that can enable creativity, change, innovation and entrepreneurship within schools. My...

Labels Against Women | #Shine Strong Pantene

Image
The commercial opens with a man and woman walking into separate meeting rooms. The man leading the meeting has the word “Boss” emblazoned behind him. The female leader has the word “Bossy.” The video shows men and women doing the same things, but with different labels associated with their activities. Where the man is “persuasive,” the woman is “pushy.” A man working late is shown as “dedicated.” The woman doing the same is labeled “selfish.” More labels continue, until the ad closes urging women: “Don’t let labels hold you back. Be strong and shine .” Forbes http://goo.gl/7gplGK

Love of Learning Skills

Image
Schools are responsible to endeavouring students a love of and the skills to participate in lifelong learning. Our students need to view schooling as a continuum rather that a series of disconnected adjuncts and to learn socially acceptable learning behaviours to participate within the globalised digital economy. Our learning services need to remain open, connected with society, embrace transformation of behaviour , as well as entice, excite and engage learning. Bill Clinton highlights the important role of schools in developing a lifetime love of learning - ‘ Your brain is a gift and we now know that people well into their late 60s and 70s can form new neural networks’ ‘by learning something new’ (Clinton YouTube video 2014)    It is important that educational leaders make sense of what a job-hopping career and extended life spans actually substantiate, how T-12 schooling dovetails within lifelong learning and how eLearning can embrace a life of self-transfor...

Australian cultural celebrations

Image
39 years ago today, Gough Whitlam made history by giving land back to Vincent Lingiari and the Gurindji people -- an iconic symbol of reconciliation and the achievements of the land rights movement.  This is a great day for Australia to celebrate. I think this day and this image of Whitlam and Lingiari is as important as any national day Australians celebrates (despite the picture's overtones symbolising the white commander and the black controlled).  There are not many of these types of cultural artefacts  which are outwardly promoted and celebrated as a nation. I believe this day is more important to the Australian cultural fabric than the external war campaigns Australia celebrates (why has the military machine taken over our cultural celebrations? $$ reason to buy more and more war hardware and to increase Australian Federal budget percentage). Australia readily celebrates the colonial past and empire heritage). Why can't this cultural activ...
