WHAT CAN MAKE UP FOR LACK OF TALENT

Image
WHAT CAN MAKE UP FOR LACK OF TALENT Does art derive its validity from the skill of the creator's hand, or from the cultural scaffolding that forces our conscious spotlight onto the object? This gallery space has thrown down a direct challenge. Dominating the centre wall, glowing in bright white neon above the shattered glass and the Campbell's Soup Can, is a raw, uncomfortable question: "WHAT CAN MAKE UP FOR LACK OF TALENT?"  This neon sign acts as the ultimate cognitive mirror, forcing us to reconcile the two extremes hanging on either side of the gallery. The Postmodern Answer: Frame and Hype Look at the soup can sitting in the spotlight. Postmodernism, driven by Andy Warhol and Pop Art, gave a cynical, revolutionary answer to this neon question: Context, branding, and institutional framing make up for a lack of talent. Postmodernism declared that you don't need the masterly brushwork of the Renaissance or the sublime emotional intensity of Mark Rothko. An art...

Queen's Birthday - King and Queen quotes to ponder

Let us not take ourselves too seriously. None of us has a monopoly on wisdom. Queen Elizabeth II A throne is only a bench covered with velvet.  Napoleon Bonaparte Brass shines as fair to the ignorant as gold to the goldsmiths.  Elizabeth I All the time I feel I must justify my existence.  Prince Of Wales Charles Kings fight for empires, madmen for applause.  John Dryden They say that kings are made in the image of God. Culture vs Strategy

“In the agricultural era, schools mirrored a garden. In the industrial era, classes mirrored the factory, with an assembly line of learners. In the digital-information era, how will learning look?” Lucy Dinwiddie Global Learning & Executive Development Leader, General Electric The urgency to develop relevant forms of 21st century leadership exists, as continued application of  20th century management practices will eventually incapacitate society. Positional leaders must transform schools from the assembly-line-of-learners era to the digital-information era.  The future of societal progression is dependent on school leaders being able to directly shift their learning goals towards the era. If societal progression is to occur, schooling must not be maimed by yester-century retro-like industrialised management practices. Within this era industrialised management practices will manufacture diminished potential.  Diminish human potential in schools and soc...

Darwin streets on a motorcycle: James Hird

Image
Leadership and the scream of fault. It seems to go so slow, Then when it happens, it seems so fast. Once within,' Once within a psychological grip, Once within responsive emergence, Once within reptilian consciousness. The scream of fault, The empathy, the denial, the bloodlet. Only baggage from this point on. Where does James Hird find gain? What responsibilities should I pass onto his burden? How many opinions should he attend to? Within this dangerous intersection of loss. How do leaders gain the necessary abilities to enter and navigate dangerous intersections. Once the path is enacted on, the configuration of artifacts morph. The unseen is then seen. The terms of what I now see are the outputs of Hirds decisions. I have been altered by Hird's decisions I now exert my opinion on Hird's decisions. When does the collective actions stop and reset. When does normality resume control? Within a new place On a new map within a new landscape. A new environment of values ...
